On Jan. 19, 2023, the SUNY New Paltz community lost Dr. Zelbert Moore, professor emeritus and one of the foundational members of the Department of Black Studies. For more than three decades, Dr. Moore was a trusted leader on this campus for generations of students, helping create community, promote student success, and encourage their engagement with issues of political, social, moral and personal importance. To honor him, a group of SUNY New Paltz alumni are organizing funeral services for Dr. Moore, and have created a public GoFundMe to support a visitation and burial befitting his many contributions to the University, his students, the surrounding community, and the field of Black Studies. Donations will go to cover expenses associated with these services; any donations collected over the amount of direct funeral costs will be given to charity in Dr. Moore’s name. Please use this link if you would like to contribute to the GoFundMe to support funeral services for Zelbert Moore and a fitting memorial to his legacy.
