About the Program

The Environmental Studies program at SUNY New Paltz is built around an interdisciplinary major providing students with the relevant knowledge and skills training in the social sciences, physical sciences, geospatial techniques and humanities. Courses are drawn from Geography, Sociology, Political Science, Biology and Chemistry, among others. A minor in Environmental Studies (ENV) is also available with less depth but similar breadth for students majoring in other disciplines. Housed in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, the Environmental Studies program is the proud home to students who are passionate about environmental issues, who are committed to redressing environmental injustice and inequalities, and who are adept at engaging with a blend of social and physical science to analyze these critical issues facing our planet.
