WALL-E SCREENING
Join us for a viewing of WALL-E, a film about a lonely robot tasked with tidying a future, uninhabitable, deserted Earth.
WALL-E falls in love with another robot who is sent to Earth to assess its habitability.
The film revolves around their relationship and the state of humanity since its evacuation from Earth. The film is rated G and is suitable for all ages. Discussion will follow the movie.

PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION
Glenn Kreisberg, author, outdoor guide, and radio engineer who researches archeoastronomy and landscape archaeology in the Hudson Valley, and Jeanne Bouza Rose, artist and educator, will lead a discussion of indigenous use of stone structures in sun worship and solstice/equinox recognition, just as Klara followed the sun in Klara and the Sun.

Larry Carr, author, retired lecturer in creative writing and drama, and publisher/ editor of Lightwood Magazine, will discuss creative imagination, the two questions that propel narrative, and how this relates to science fiction, Klara, and other writing. Discussion will follow.

Join students in Professor Dan Potocki’s New Venture Development business class as they lead small group discussions that consider philosophical questions regarding the development and various uses of artificial intelligence.

PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, KLARA, AND OUR FUTURE
Don Grice, Ph.D in Electrical Engineering, worked at IBM in Research and System Design, with an emphasis on Man- Machine Interaction, Deep Blue, and Watson. He will discuss the current state of AI, the elements of robotics in Klara that currently exist, ethical issues related to AI technologies, whether AI devices can have “feelings,” and Isaac Asimov’s 3 Rules of Robotics. Discussion will follow.

Rev. Allison Moore, PhD, the priest of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, and Episcopal Campus Minister at SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Ulster, will lead a discussion of the ethical concerns raised by Klara and the Sun.

5:00pm: Join us for a viewing of AI: Artificial Intelligence, a science-fiction movie, directed by Steven Spielberg, about an android boy, the first to have real feelings and his search for his place in the world. Rated PG-13.
7:30pm: Discussion will follow the movie.
*Participants can view the film at home- on DVD or firestick through Elting Library or a paid streaming service- and then join for the discussion.
