Peregrine Dining Hall Renovation

This project is part of a comprehensive, thoughtful and planned approach by New York State, SUNY and SUNY New Paltz to make significant, long-term investments in our campus infrastructure, with the express purpose of enhancing the student experience for generations to come.

Project: Renovation

Estimated Construction Start: Late summer 2025

Estimated Construction Finish: Summer 2028

Estimated Cost: $51M (Sources: State University Construction Fund; Sodexo; Campus Auxiliary Services)

Summary: The primary campus dining hall will be fully renovated for the first time since it opened in the 1960s. While it is under construction, our Dining Services partners at Sodexo will be introducing new and expanded dining options across campus. Starting in fall 2025, New Paltz students will have access to more on-campus dining options than ever before. The new and improved dining hall will reopen in approximately three years fully equipped to provide the level of service that students expect on a 21st century campus.

Peregrine Dining Hall opened in 1964, which means it just celebrated its 60th birthday. It has reached the point where a complete and total renovation is necessary for it to continue serving the campus community as our primary dining option.

The new-and-improved Peregrine will reopen fully equipped with all the modern amenities to serve our students well into the 21st century.

More specific details about what students can expect from Peregrine Dining Hall after this renovation will be shared with the campus community as the project moves forward.

Construction at Peregrine Dining Hall will start in the fall 2025 semester. The renovation is expected to take about three years to complete, with reopening planned for 2028. The building will be closed for the duration of the project.

So many things! Our campus dining partners at Sodexo will be rolling out a number of new dining options, expanding hours and menus at existing options, and debuting more flexible and adaptable meal plans in fall 2025 to make sure that every New Paltz student has access to high-quality, nutritious, diverse and delicious food all year long.

In fall 2025, New Paltz students will have more on-campus dining options than ever before. Some highlights:

  • There will be a new, all-you-care-to-eat dining hall opening at College Terrace. Like a “mini”-Peregrine, the Terrace can comfortably seat about 100 people at a time and will provide a diverse, self-serve menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Dining Services will be opening multiple new food outlets across campus, including plenty of vegetarian, vegan and allergen-free dining choices.
  • Favorites like Element 93 will be open for extended hours.
  • Students will be able to place GrubHub orders from three new ghost kitchen concepts based in The Roost at Ridgeview.
  • We’ll also add new smart vending options providing grab-and-go coffee, breakfasts, and even salads.
  • And there are some surprises in store as well … (Fans of food trucks, this is your moment!)

No, the construction project will not impact meal plans. In fall 2025, meal plan rates will increase by about 5% from fall 2024 prices. This increase is related to inflationary costs and is consistent with typical year-over-year changes.

SUNY New Paltz provides one of the most affordable dining experiences in the SUNY system, and this will not change in 2025-26.
