The tradition continues: SUNY New Paltz welcomed our newest Hawks on Aug. 20, 2021, with a ceremony looking forward to the year ahead and a get-to-know-you BBQ outside the Athletic & Wellness Center.
“You came here to learn about the world, to learn about yourselves, and to develop knowledge and intellectual abilities that will position you for life and for livelihood after you leave New Paltz. So we assemble in academic regalia, to reinforce the significance of this moment as you embark on your college experience as a SUNY New Paltz student.”
President Donald P. Christian
“You are exactly what constitutes a SUNY New Paltz student: You are driven, curious, and bound for something much larger than you can possibly foresee. Your journey begins today. So, class of 2025, take a deep breath. Leave no stone left unturned, say hi to everyone, try everything, even if you’re scared. Because these are the years that you’ll remember the most. This is YOUR home; this is your New Paltz.”
Alyssa Dudinyak ’22 (Painting & Drawing), providing the Student Welcome
“The chief part of our job as faculty is to help you to think for yourselves, to identify issues, to ask questions, to work out your ‘take’ on whatever we study, and to apply your thinking in the classroom, on paper, on screen, in the library, on stage, in the studio, in the lab, in the clinic, in the field, and in the workplace.”
Lou Roper, SUNY Distinguished Professor of History, providing the Faculty Welcome
“I hope that each of you enjoys your time at SUNY New Paltz and the learning experience that awaits you. Challenge yourself to inquire about things you are interested in, and ask questions during those silent moments in your classrooms. Realize and appreciate the opportunity that has been presented to you. Your college years will go by fast!”
