Coronavirus updates

Aug. 28 report on confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the campus community
There were no new cases reported on Thursday, Aug. 28

COVID-19 Dashboard

A new COVID-19 dashboard has been developed to provide real-time updates on positive cases that could pose a risk to the on-campus community. The dashboard includes a tally of “active cases,” defined as confirmed positive COVID-19 tests among individuals who have been on campus and may have exposed others.

This dashboard does not include tallies of positive cases among students taking online courses from home, or employees who are telecommuting and not coming to campus, as any such cases should not pose an on-campus health risk.

This tool is a work in progress and the College will add new metrics now that mandatory testing will begin Monday, Aug. 31.
Note: Active cases are defined as a confirmed positive COVID-19 test among individuals who have been on campus and may have exposed others. Learn more about our testing and tracing protocols here.

Reopening FAQ of the day

Will the College work with students to provide safe internship experiences in fall 2020?
SUNY New Paltz is following guidance provided by the SUNY Administration regarding internships, including by taking the following steps:
  • Working with participating students to ensure that appropriate protocols are in place.
  • Staying in touch with internship placement sites to ensure that appropriate protocols are being followed.
  • Ensuring that students are aware of alternative options for non-licensure programs.
The College's fall 2020 reopening plan is highly detailed and dense, and our corresponding list of FAQs runs to more than 10,000 words (and counting!). In an effort to make this very important information more digestible for campus community members, we're highlighting questions and answers in this newsletter, one per day, as the fall semester approaches.
Please note: We are working to update and add FAQs as planning continues and this situation evolves. We will prioritize sharing the most current information in this space.
