SUNY New Paltz is excited to welcome new students to our community through a new, online Orientation experience. The Center for Student Engagement is coordinating the transition for new first-year and transfer students in a variety of modalities. New students have access to virtual modules on important aspects of campus life, and additional live sessions allow them to engage directly with departments, programs and peers.

Reopening FAQ of the day

Will students be able to get tested for COVID-19 on campus?
Yes, Student Health Service will offer some COVID-19 testing. They will also be able to write prescriptions to allow students to get tested at community testing sites.
The College's fall 2020 reopening plan is highly detailed and dense, and our corresponding list of FAQs runs to nearly 10,000 words (and counting!). In an effort to make this very important information more digestible for campus community members, we're highlighting questions and answers in this newsletter, one per day, as the fall semester approaches.
Please note: We are working to update and add FAQs as planning continues and this situation evolves. We will prioritize sharing the most current information in this space.

Student Capstones and Thesis Work

It was genuinely difficult to keep up with the staggering volume of galleries, exhibitions, original research and video presentations New Paltz students published at the end of the 2019-20 academic year. We'd like to take time this summer to spotlight individual projects and give this exceptional scholarship and creative work its due.
Today, shades of blue from the Gap in the Clouds exhibition of BA and BS Visual Arts senior capstones.

Margaret Winchell ’20 (Visual Arts)
"A photographer has the rare opportunity to capture a moment; one that never had existed before, that will never exist again and whose beauty would have otherwise been surrendered. The photographer flirts with immortality. My grandma, someone who is very important to me, is in a nursing home, and life is not the same. I cannot see her during these times of uncertainty. I find myself yearning for her in the objects she has given me and the memories we share together. Through photography and a series of cyanotypes, I immortalize my grandma, with a crossword that could still be finished, a teacup passed down through three daughters, and a portrait with lively, loving eyes staring back at me. She is with me and lives amongst me even though I cannot be with her."
