At long last, the men's lacrosse team played its first-ever SUNY Athletic Conference game on Monday at Plattsburgh. The Hawks took the loss, but this is just the beginning for a team that's worked for years to get to this level. "SUNYAC is a great conference with great coaches," said Head Coach Dwayne Stewart. "The team looks forward to competing with some of the nation's best." See more @newpaltzhawks.

Martine Kei Green-Rogers, associate professor of theatre arts, shared remarks during SUNY Chancellor Malatras's PRODiG announcement on March 23, 2021.
"My experience at SUNY New Paltz has been a transformative one—I have felt seen and heard by those in the Theatre Department, and I know I am not just here because of how I look and the diversity I represent, but because of the knowledge and skills I possess," Green-Rogers said. "I am thrilled about the prospects of more purposeful and targeted hires of faculty from marginalized and under-represented groups to sense this same feeling. And, I am especially excited for the present and future students who will be able to experience the depth and breadth that is available to them when their faculty is truly diverse in lived experience and thought."

One more from yesterday's PRODiG announcement with SUNY Chancellor Malatras, featuring JJ Devis '21 (Theatre Arts), who also offered remarks.
"It wasn't until SUNY New Paltz where I saw multiple Black professors, especially in the field I want to pursue," Devis said. "Having a diverse faculty on all campuses and in all fields is important, as it helps current students complete their degree and become notable alumni. Seeing and getting to know professors of color who teach in my major and are accomplished is extremely inspiring and lets me know there is a greater chance for me to succeed regardless of my skin color."

In Scherzer's "Call and Response," pictured above, we see the print (left) as well as the copper plate used for printing (right), subsequently transformed into an object of display.

One of our new favorite follows is @hvdronegirl, a project of Tara Kleinhans '16 (Digital Media Management) '21g (Business Administration). Tara wrote her drone photography business plan as her undergraduate capstone and launched her start-up as a licensed drone pilot right after graduating. She still finds her way back to her alma mater, as she did for this shoot, staged by carving a snowshoe mandala pattern on one of our south fields.

Caution fatigue is REAL! We're nearly a year into this pandemic, and it is natural to be tired of masking, social distancing, hand sanitizing and all the rest, day after day after day. The Division of Student Affairs made a short video to help you stay motivated and keep your guard up.
We're almost there, and we will do it together!
