Program Information

SUNY New Paltz is among the largest graduate metal programs in the country and has earned the distinction of being the #1-ranked public university metal program.

Metal is an active area of study that engages a wide variety of ideas, objects, images, and modes of making. The Metal program is directed by Professor Myra Mimlitsch-Gray and includes Associate Professor Lynn Batchelder, Instructional Support Technician Adam Mastropaolo as full-time teaching and professional faculty, Amelia Toelke as Visiting Faculty, and Jamie Bennett as Professor Emeritus.

The rigorous curriculum provides opportunities to explore the technical, aesthetic, and conceptual aspects of contemporary jewelry and metalsmithing in a state-of-the-art facility with teachers who are actively engaged artists and who exhibit and lecture internationally. New Paltz Metal alumni enhance this field in meaningful ways; they actively participate in building and sustaining a critical and productive community while expanding the field through their energetic, creative professional work.
