Composition Concentration
Composition is open to musicians that are interested in building a community through composing and playing original music, semi-improvised works, songwriters, interdisciplinary works, or anything that develops one's personal writing style and voice.
During a student's time of study, they will learn to conceptualize a new project, turn a rough idea into a finished piece and perform it. Students will learn to use notational software and DAWS as part of the composition process. Composition students will have the opportunity to write for the Composer New Music Ensemble (MUS 130) , participate in group projects in Composition Seminar (MUS 230/430), and create individual works that are suited to their interests in Applied Composition (MUS 219/419).
Composition students take 4 semesters of Composition Seminar, a weekly meeting for students to share their works-in-progress and do collaborative projects. Experiments of Composition (MUS 211) is a cornerstone of the concentration, which focuses on experimental music practices that developed in the 1960's forward.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
1. An original work (no style, duration or notation requirements—whatever represents you​).
2. Play any piece on your primary instrument.
