A concentration in Design & Technology (D&T) prepares students for careers in Theatre Design and Production or placement in professional apprenticeships and graduate school. The core curriculum of the Theatre Arts department is the foundation for all majors, with the concentration in D&T facilitating engagement in all disciplines of design and theatre production as well as stage management and production management.
The classroom experience emphasizes process — the exploration of the text, the discovery of ideas, creative problem solving, and visual style — while building technical and graphic skills required for success in a multitude of careers in the theatre. Supplementing the coursework, the Department of Theatre Arts has a truly ambitious Mainstage and Praxis production season each year. Our shows provide a laboratory to experience the theory explored in class. Students have the opportunity to work in all capacities on production, including designing for the Mainstage.
The Theatre Arts programs has a high placement rate for our graduates in various careers, graduate schools, and professional internships. While grounded firmly in the Liberal Arts tradition, the curriculum of the concentration provides opportunities for specialization through independent studies and production assignments.
