Immigration Resources for International Students – From the Center for International Programs
We are aware of reported changes to immigration policy and enforcement impacting international students in the US. The Center for International Programs is providing this information to address concerns, show our support, and acknowledge how these changes may impact international students at New Paltz. We understand this may be a time of uncertainty and concern, and we are available to assist you.
How We Are Responding
- The Center for International Programs is actively monitoring immigration policy updates and assessing how they may impact you and the New Paltz community.
- Every day the International Student Services Staff proactively check the records of each New Paltz International Student in the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to confirm that they are still in “Active” status.
- The International Student Advisors are available to meet with students and answer your concerns. You can make an appointment or stop by during our regular office hours.
Guidance for International Students
- Follow immigration requirements for maintaining lawful F-1 or J-1 student status.
- Plan international travel well in advance so that you have time to review your documents and obtain travel signatures to avoid risks or delays.
- When traveling internationally or domestically, be sure to carry your original immigration documents and keep them with you in your hand luggage.
- Be prepared for heightened screening measures when applying for a student visa or entering the United States. These may include a review of your social media.
