A letter from the Alumni Council President
The Alumni Council back on campus in September 2024 in support of the Alumni Association, which all graduates of SUNY New Paltz are a part of.

Dear New Paltz Alumni,

As the newly elected President of the Alumni Council, let me take this opportunity to tell you who we are, what we do and what our goals are for the upcoming year. The Alumni Council consists of up to 30 SUNY New Paltz alumni who are appointed by the University President. The Alumni Council was founded to provide organization, structure and leadership to interact with and facilitate engagement between the University and members of the Alumni Association. Notably, anyone who has ever attended SUNY New Paltz is a member of the Alumni Association.

Recently, we welcomed approximately 2,200 new members from the newly minted Class of 2024 to the Alumni Association. Last year, the Alumni Council diligently worked on a strategic plan to diversify alumni engagement, inspire alumni giving and motivate alumni to participate in the life of the University. Here, we outline how our strategic plan comes to life:

1. Diversify alumni engagement. New Paltz alumni are everywhere.

We are leaders in business, finance, law and government; we are actors, singers, writers, authors, engineers, scientists and doctors. As such, we will highlight alumni success stories on multiple New Paltz media platforms, to support our members and inspire current and prospective students. We will also work to strengthen alumni networks nationwide. Please be on the lookout for an Alumni Networking Reception in a city near you!

2. Inspire alumni giving. Every dollar makes a difference.

We understand the difference a dollar can make in many of our professional roles. We seek to inspire alumni to donate to the University because alumni giving matters. Our continued support of the Fund for New Paltz and many other scholarships and funds support students, faculty and the University overall. No matter the amount, our gifts make a difference. Donate today.

3. Motivate alumni to participate in the life of the University.

When was your last visit to New Paltz? There are many opportunities for alumni to participate in the life of the University: Alumni Reunion in October, 100 Days to Commencement in February, Accepted Students Days in the spring, and Finals Fuel events for students at the end of each semester. There is no shortage of on- and off-campus events that connect us to New Paltz.

Alumni engagement, giving, and participation are the hallmarks of a robust Alumni Association. This year, our Alumni Reunion is from Oct. 17 - 20. Let’s gather to engage, give and participate.

Forever Orange and Blue,

Keisha A. Parker ’00 (Communications; Black Studies), Esq. LL.M.
