Planned Giving

As I approach my 50th anniversary of graduating from SUNY New Paltz, I reflect on my decision to create educational opportunities for SUNY New Paltz students by including the University in my estate plan.

The highly personal decision to create a planned gift in support of students pursuing degrees in Special Education grew out of my desire to give back to both the University and to the field. My experiences as a student at New Paltz solidly built my foundational professional skills, enhanced my social and cultural knowledge, and planted the seeds for lifelong friendships. My undergraduate, master’s and doctoral studies were all supported by scholarships, and I wish to extend such opportunities to others, hoping to help enrich and shape their lives and enable them to do likewise for others. I am excited about the recent addition of the Science of Reading Center and its focus on literacy, which has been a key component of my professional endeavors and a lifelong passion.

New Paltz is a part of my heart and soul. My estate planning includes perpetually giving thanks while supporting other educators, their students and families, and learning communities. Please consider joining me through the caring act of creating a gift through your estate. This act of gratitude for SUNY New Paltz and solidarity with its mission extends your influence into the future, beyond your lifetime.

Sincerely,

Sheryl Asen ’74 (Education; Anthropology) Ph.D.
