The art of the Bamun peoples centered around the court of the king, or fon, and the judicial, social, and religious order that he ensured through elaborate royal ceremonies. Small bronze masks reflecting these royal ceremonies are worn at the waist on a belt and underscore the exaulted status of their owners. This mask illustrates the sumptuous nature of Bamun court art in its elaborate hair-do with a decorated, high central crest.
