Off-campus sexual assault

PART I-The Town of New Paltz Police Department is investigating a sexual assault that occurred in an off-campus Village of New Paltz apartment during the early morning hours of September 4, 2016. The female victim is a SUNY New Paltz student.
This is an active investigation and leads are currently being developed. As further information is released, it will be forwarded to the Campus Community.

PART-II-As New Paltz Police continue their interviews, they have learned of a second and similar off-campus incident at a nearby Village of New Paltz residence involving a female SUNY student.

PART III-The New Paltz Police Department is investigating a sexual assault that occurred in an apartment in the Village of New Paltz at about 5:45am on September 4, 2016.
A male subject entered the female victim’s apartment while she was sleeping in her bedroom where he sexually assaulted her. The victim was able to fend off the suspect who fled the area. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned of two other similar incident that occurred at other apartments in the Village. In those incidents the suspect was encountered by residents and fled the area.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’9” to 6’00 tall, medium build, appears to be in his 20’s and was last seen in the area of Innis Avenue.

The New Paltz Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the SUNY New Paltz Police Department, the Ulster County SANE Unit and the New York State Police.
