What Does Justice Mean for You?
This program brings together students and professionals with a range of backgrounds and work experiences, from education and human services to activism and advocacy. Our students, faculty and alumni represent different communities, but are united by a common commitment to practices that promote social justice and combat the forces that divide us.
New Name, Same Commitment to Equity
The MPS in Social Justice Educational Studies inherits a decades-long history and mission from the SUNY New Paltz Humanistic/Multicultural Education community. This has always been, and remains, a tight-knit program where alumni become part of something bigger: a network of passionate graduates who hold leadership positions at schools and universities, care programs and advocacy organizations throughout the Northeast.
Apply What You Learn, in the Real World
Opportunities abound for students to use their knowledge and skills in their lives and work. The program supports internships, offers options for fulfilling requirements through study abroad experiences, and convenes an annual conference that attracts educators and students from across the region for deep conversations about the most pressing issues in social justice education today. We host an annual Multicultural Education Conference each year attended by hundreds of educators from the area.
Many Ways to Be an Educator
This program offers pathways to help every student meet their goals. Maybe you’re already in an education or human services position and want to add new transformative practices to your work. Are you already a classroom teacher, but need your professional state certification? We can help with that, too. Our program advisors can give you everything you need to know to design a track that’s right for you!
