Associate Provost's Message 
Welcome to the Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment’s website.
The call for greater accountability in higher education has gained strength, particularly with respect to student learning outcomes and efficiency in use of fiscal and human resources. The ongoing calls for accountability stem, in part, from the perception that colleges and universities do not plan carefully or evaluate their effectiveness. At New Paltz, we believe we must plan and measure the extent to which those plans are successful in order to maintain institutional excellence and vitality.
The Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment (OSPA) supports New Paltz in fulfilling its mission and goals through the building of institutional capacity for a culture of evidence and continuous improvement by working with faculty and staff to assess student learning, programs, services, and processes and to use the evidence to promote educational and institutional excellence. Directed by the Cabinet, the Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment and the Strategic Planning and Assessment Council facilitate the integration of planning and assessment across the institution. The Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment also provides leadership, guidance, and support for the institution’s accreditation, academic program reviews, and accountability functions.
My hope is that the work of the Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment will help to advance institutional planning and assessment goals; promote institutional efficiency, quality, excellence, and continuous improvement; and respond to calls for institutional transparency and accountability.
