Student Advocates are undergraduate student interns working under the supervision of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards. Student Advocates are available during the regular academic semester to consult with student respondents and student complainants regarding their rights and responsibilities when involved in the campus judicial process. A Student Advocate can meet with you confidentially in person, via phone, or virtually to review and explain your paperwork, assist you in preparing for the next step in your conduct process, and accompany you, if you choose to, as a support person at Initial Conference meetings and Conduct Board hearings.
How can I request the services of a Student Advocate?
You may contact the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards at conduct@newpaltz.edu or call the office at 845.257.3260. We will take your contact information and have an advocate call you to set up a time to speak.
The Disability Resource Center (DRC) coordinates academic accommodations and auxiliary aids and services for students with disabilities to ensure equal access to all programs, services and activities at SUNY New Paltz. If you have a disability and require accommodations throughout the conduct process, please call 845-257-3020 or email drc@newpaltz.edu to initiate your request for accommodations and indicate you are requesting their assistance in a conduct process.
Your Student Activity Fee supports you receiving a free consultation with Attorney Victoria Kossover. Regardless of whether you had an on-campus incident or an off-campus concern, as a registered student you have access to Ms. Kossover's assistance on any legal matter.
If you have general legal questions, landlord/tenant issues, or if you have been arrested, you can contact Ms. Kossover for advice on the legal process and your rights. If you had an incident where you received an 'appearance ticket' to go to court and pay a fine, Ms. Kossover can advise you as well. She can also offer basic advice about the Student Conduct Process if you are charged with a violation of the Student Code of Conduct/Handbook or are an involved party in a case of student-to-student conflict.
