Gabrielle Bouissou practices as a licensed creative arts therapist (LCAT) at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, where she has been providing patient care since April 2021. In this role, she oversees all therapeutic programming for patients hospitalized on one of the behavioral health department’s inpatient psychiatric units. Prior to this position, she served as a staff member at The Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, where she oversaw various research, patient care, and outreach initiatives for patients from birth to end of life. In addition to her inpatient work, she provides private music therapy for older adults through several agencies. She is a passionate advocate for human rights, working with several volunteer and mutual aid organizations in New York City that work to combat housing insecurity, health inequality, and food insecurity.
Bouissou graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in contemporary music studies (pre-music therapy) and Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, and Master of Science degree in music therapy from SUNY New Paltz. She received the Outstanding Graduate Award for both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. During her time at SUNY New Paltz, she was chosen as a member of the Student Advisory Board for the department of Fine & Performing Arts, served as parliamentarian of the Music Therapy Club, and founded the Undergraduate Music Student Association.
