Berne Bendel is an associate professor of education and psychology at SUNY Columbia-Greene Community College in Hudson, New York. Bendel has worked in P-20 education for her entire career and at many professional levels: as an English as a New Language teacher assistant, as a Head Start, preschool, and kindergarten teacher, as an entry-level college admissions staff member, as an administrator as a college Director of Admissions, and as a college faculty member in the social sciences. Bendel found her passion in anti-poverty work as a graduate student in SUNY New Paltz’s Social Justice Educational Studies program.
Bendel served as a founding member of the Germantown Central School District after-school program and as a Head Start Policy Council community representative and currently serves as a board member of the Columbia-Greene Community College Day Care, as a board member and secretary for Columbia Opportunities, Inc., Columbia County, New York’s Community Action program, and as a Social Justice Education program advisory board member. She’s a proud champion for senior dogs and cats.
