Rebecca Sorenson graduated from SUNY Oswego in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in childhood education, Brooklyn College in 2012 with a master's degree in special education, and Bank Street College in 2022 with a master's degree in School Building Leadership. Before pursuing a position in School Building Leadership, she worked as a special education teacher for ten years in the Department of Education. She spent five years teaching ICT, SETSS, and 12:1:1 at Eagle Academy for Young Men of Southeast Queens before she joined the SOF community as an 8th-grade humanities ICT learning specialist. Rebecca was inspired to become a special education teacher because of her experience as a student with a disability. She is passionate about advocating for students and working with families to ensure students are provided with the appropriate level of support in order to progress in the least restrictive learning environment. As a leader, Sorenson is committed to supporting educators in their professional growth, especially in the areas of equity, CR-SE teaching practices, and competency-based education.
