Elizabeth CarrisAssociate Professor, Mathematics Department
SUNY Orange

Elizabeth Carris’ passion for teaching ignited after teaching as an adjunct at SUNY Sullivan, eventually moving on to positions at SUNY Ulster and SUNY Dutchess, and ultimately to a full-time role at SUNY Orange. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, Carris brings a diverse perspective to her work in higher education.

While her dedication to teaching remains strong, Carris has increasingly focused on larger projects aimed at enhancing student success. Her leadership journey began with chairing our Student Success Committee, which paved the way for other significant roles. She currently serves as the Shared Governance President and co-lead the Strategic Planning Team, where she continues to contribute to the college's growth. I believe that great leadership stems from having a great team, and my leadership style is both authentic and adaptable, emphasizing strong communication, active listening, and leveraging the unique strengths of each team member. Carris has a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and a Master of Arts in secondary education, mathematics) from SUNY New Paltz.  She also holds a Master of Arts in Pure Mathematics from Western Connecticut State University and a Post Graduate Certification Credits in Community College Leadership from Old Dominion University.
