The Sustainability Committee is comprised of students, faculty, staff, and administrators from across the campus.
Major milestones of the Sustainability Committee include:
2012:
- Developed Campus Sustainability Plan of 2012
2015:
- Led efforts to develop STARS Silver Report of 2015
2016:
- Launched the Sustainability Faculty Learning Community
- Supported the establishment of the Sustainability Living-Learning Community
2017:
- Proposed to the President and Provost for Global Goals for Sustainable Development Framework to be included in the SUNY New Paltz Strategic Plan
- Initiated discussions about the potential for a sustainability major, which eventually led to the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies’ Major in Environmental Studies launched in 2020
2018:
- Contributed to STARS Silver Report of 2018
2021:
- Developed Sustainability Course Designation
- Submitted sustainability comments to the Provost on the draft SUNY System GE framework
2022-23:
- Developed Sustainability SWOT Analysis (one page and expanded version) and engaged President Wheeler on sustainability as an institutional value
2023:
- Contributed to STARS Gold Report of 2023
- Organized the 10 Year Celebration of Campus Sustainability on May 1, 2023
- Began brainstorming process for ways to include sustainability in the new SUNY New Paltz strategic plan
