The Co-Coordinators of the Sustainability Faculty Learning Community invite academic and professional faculty to apply to join SUNY New Paltz's eighth cohort of Sustainability Faculty Fellows focusing on our spring 2024 themes of sustainability, climate action, and climate justice.
We encourage new and returning Fellows to apply to the spring 2024 cohort who aspire to integrate and emphasize these themes in our teaching, research, regional/community engagement and campus programs.
Our Sustainability Faculty Learning Community program goals are twofold: On an individual level, we aim to deepen our conception and articulation of sustainability, climate action, and climate justice and explore how their intersections apply to our research, teaching, professional development, and programs. By supporting and coordinating our existing and new Sustainability Fellows cohorts, we build strong partnerships and deep discourse across campus as we collaboratively envision transdisciplinary curriculum that addresses the most pressing issues facing our world today.
To earn an extra service stipend of $250 we ask you to commit to the following:
- Attend an Introduction to Sustainability Frameworks Workshop to be held on Friday, February 9 from 8 AM to 9:15 AM at the Faculty Development Center at College Hall
- Attend a second workshop on climate frameworks including Project Drawdown, Regeneration, just transition, climate justice and other climate frameworks on Wednesday, March 13 from 8 AM to 9:15 AM at the Faculty Development Center at College Hall
- Attend a third workshop on Thursday, April 4 from 8 AM to 9:15 AM at the Faculty Development Center at College Hall
- Attend three campus campus events this semester (TBD dates, commonly held during the evenings) as well as post-event discussion group with Fellows.
- Attend a two-day mostly on campus summer retreat on Tuesday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 12.
- Written submission by the end of June:
- Submit a revised syllabus for one course highlighting the integration of sustainability, climate action, and/or climate justice
- OR
- Submit a revised program description of a campus program highlighting the integration of sustainability, climate action, and/or climate justice
- AND
- A minimum 2-page double spaced reflection on (1) your experience as a Fellow and the process of integrating sustainability, climate action and/or climate justice into your course(s) and/or program(s) and (2) potential future directions and next steps of this work
All academic faculty - including adjunct faculty - and professional faculty are welcome to apply to our eighth cohort.
New participants as well as returning Sustainability Faculty Fellows are welcome to apply.
Workshop #1 - Friday, February 9 from 8 AM to 9:15 AM at the Faculty Development Center at College Hall - required
Workshop #2 - Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 8 AM to 9:15 AM at the Faculty Development Center at College Hall - required
Workshop #3 - Thursday, April 4 from 8 AM to 9:15 AM at the Faculty Development Center at College Hall - required
Summer Retreat - Tuesday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 12 mostly on campus - required
Additionally, Fellows are encouraged to attend up to three special events (such as guest lectures) on campus, which are typically held during weekday evenings as well as a post-lecture discussion with cohort Fellows.
