Required NYS Tests for Initial Birth-Grade 6 Certification
Educating All Students (EAS) Test
- Recommend taking during Methods 3 (or after SPE350 Inclusive Classrooms). EDI399 Working with English Language Learners is a 1-credit course that can help you prepare for this exam
- Covers diverse student populations; English language learners; students with disabilities & special learning needs; teacher responsibilities; and school-home relationships
- 2.25 hr. computer-based test, self-scheduled at a test center
- Fee $92
Multi-Subject Content Specialty Tests (CSTs) for Birth-Grade 2 AND Grades 1-6
- Recommend taking at end of Methods 3 or during Student Teaching
- Assesses content knowledge in multiple subject areas, and is aligned with the NYS learning standards
- Computer-based, and self-scheduled at a test center
- Each test has three parts, but the third part is common to both tests, and only needs to be taken once Fee varies depending on which version/how many parts of each test you take on the same day
edTPA (Teacher Performance Assessment)
- Multiple-measure portfolio assessment which evaluates pre-service teachers’ readiness to teach
- Will include videotaped lessons from Student Teaching semester
