We want your first-year experience at SUNY New Paltz to be intellectually challenging and welcoming. The following resources will help ease the transition by answering some of your composition-related questions about courses, transfer credits, required texts, and student support services.
• If you are wondering about first-year writing requirements, course overviews and placement, transfer credits, assignment and attendance policies, academic integrity, or have other general questions, visit our Hawksite.
• For help with a writing question or assignment: review the resources at Purdue University's Online Writing Lab (OWL); or contact our campus Center for Student Success, which includes writing support.
• All of our courses include an ePortfolio, a collection of each student's writing showcased on Hawksites (our version of Wordpress), which is free for students and faculty. For more about portfolios, visit this page.
• Have a question about a Writing & Rhetoric course topic (framed as a Wicked Problem or Question) for the upcoming semester? Please email Joann Deiudicibus for a list or contact the instructor directly.
• The Common Summer Reading Program was a successful program for many years, but is not active, currently. Here is a list of past selections that may interest students and instructors. Materials for the most recent Common Summer Reading (2016), a collection of TED talks, can be found on the orientation website.
• Interested in publishing your writing from our courses, or reading our best student writing? Visit New Voices, New Visions 2021-2022 here and see our publications page on other collections we’ve curated.
