While you're still in school, we strongly recommend that you create a budget and only borrow what you need. You can use the Financial Awareness Counseling Tool (FACT) on StudentAid.gov to view your current debt and create a budget. Keep in mind that the more you borrow, the higher your monthly payments will be.
We also recommend that you stay informed about what’s happening with your student loans. You can keep track of your loans by visiting StudentAid.gov. You should also create an online account with your loan servicer. This will enable you to view your loan balances, see how much interest is accruing on your unsubsidized loan(s) if applicable, and make interest payments if you choose to do so.
