May 2023: Faculty Accomplishments: Theatre Arts

Professor Katya Stanislavskaya

Katya’s original musical THE USEFUL CITIZEN, which had received numerous grants and a two-week staged reading at SUNY-New Paltz, was accepted to the Florida Festival of New Musicals. The festival will take place in June 2023 at the Winter Park Playhouse in Orlando, Florida.

Katya was also commissioned to write the opening number for the Curtain Up Songwriters Workshop at the University of Lynchburg in Virginia. The performance will take place in May 2023. 

 

Brittany Proia

Department of Theatre Arts adjunct lecturer Brittany Proia performed in and music directed both TWELFTH NIGHT (Feste) and ALWAYS...PATSY CLINE (Patsy) at the Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona, Minnesota this past summer. In September, Proia produced the world premiere production of the new queer climate-doom comedy BLOOM BLOOM POW by Genevieve Simon, directed by Katherine Wilkinson, and Sound Designed by SUNY New Paltz Associate Professor Sun Hee Kil at ART/NY in NYC.  And in October, Proia produced FURY! written and performed by former SUNY New Paltz adjunct lecturer and guest director Lauren Bone Noble at the United Solo Festival in NYC. As of January 2023, Brittany stepped in as Interim Managing Director at SHADOWLAND STAGES in Ellenville, NY - a professional theatre company entering its 38th season.
