5th Annual Undergraduate Art History Symposium

The Department of Art History and The Art History Association held their 5th annual Undergraduate Art History Symposium. Featuring over 20 Zoom sessions in four days and a keynote speaker, the Symposium was a huge success!
The SUNY New Paltz Undergraduate Art History Symposium began as the idea of two students serving as co-presidents of the College’s Art History Association in the fall of 2018. Within a few short years, it has grown into a multi-day virtual event this spring featuring the work of over 100 talented students from institutions across the globe. We look forward to developing further this premiere outlet for undergraduates interested in art history and its related fields to share their research, broaden their intellectual horizons, and network with one another.

Mainstage Season 22-23

The Department of Theatre Arts had a hugely successful season with its two Mainstage shows, Everybody and Bat Boy.

EVERYBODY
By Branden Jacobs-Jenkins | Directed by Brittany Proia

Everybody is a modern riff on the 15th-century morality play Everyman.  Everybody is chosen from the cast by lottery at each performance, which plays up the randomness of death and the universality of the human condition; Everybody journeys through what’s considered life’s greatest mystery – the meaning of living while at the same time being “wildly funny.”

An Absurdly Funny Play about Death

EVERYBODY was presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection.

BAT BOY
By Keythe Farley, Brian Flemming & Laurence O’Keefe | Music Directed by Katya Stanislavskaya | Directed by Catherine Doherty

Bat Boy is an American comedy/horror rock musical based on a 1992 Weekly World News story about a half-boy, half-bat, dubbed “Bat Boy”, who grew up living in a cave.  Discovered and brought to a small town in West Virginia, in the musical, Bat Boy finds a new life by trying to fit in – he even finds love – but soon Bat Boy is faced with obstacles presented by the narrow-minded townsfolk.
