Barbara Scherr taught speech therapy in the Marlboro School district. A longtime community volunteer, she serves on the boards of United Cerebral Palsy for New York State and for the New York City region. She also serves on the board of the Goshen affiliate of Inspire and is a former board member for the Museum of the Hudson Highlands. In addition, Scherr has been involved with the Institute for Disaster Mental Health at SUNY New Paltz, was a founding member of the Hudson Valley chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation, and served on the board of Temple Beth Jacob for many years. She is also a founder, with her late husband Harry, of CUB’s Place, for children in crisis.
In 2008, Scherr was honored by the Orange County Citizens Foundation Ottaway medal for her and her late husband’s more than 25 years of volunteer service and dedication to improving the quality of life in Orange County.
Ms. Scherr graduated from Emerson College with a degree in speech and currently resides in the Town of Newburgh, N.Y.
