Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for the role of Site Representative in the department of Facilities – Design & Construction. The Site Representative position is a salaried, professional position that will be filled by a candidate with a construction management, architectural or engineering education and/or experiential background. They will primarily observe and report on construction activities for major capital construction projects administered on the SUNY New Paltz campus by the State University Construction Fund (SUCF) or by the SUNY New Paltz Facilities Management department.
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
• Monitor and report on the Contractor’s performance, assuring compliance with contract documents;
• Monitor and report on the construction schedule & contractor’s work plan;
• Manage requests for information (RFIs) and proposed changes to project scope;
• Observe & document any time & materials related changes to the project scope;
• Provide construction document interpretations & assist with RFI responses as required;
• Observe & report on special testing in the field;
• Review & report on written test reports for those administered off-site;
• Maintain project records;
• Take and manage project photos depicting existing conditions, work progress, specific concerns and final product;
• Attend project meetings & report on proceedings;
• Maintain a log book of activities at the site, including weather conditions, nature and location of Work being performed, daily contractor staffing, verbal instructions and interpretations given to the Contractor, specific observations, and visitors to site including reason for visit;
• Record and communicate any issues that arise on the jobsite, and any occurrence of Work that might result in a claim for a change in Contract Sum or contract Time;
• Observe and report on jobsite organization, cleanliness, safety and fire safety;
• Assist in review, or coordination of, Shop Drawings, Product Data and Samples;
• Coordinate with campus operations & campus community, including communication with Facilities Management, Building Supervisors and University Police when necessary;
• Have knowledge of, and practically apply, NYS Building Code, OSHA safety and environmental requirements in relation to construction procedures;
• Utilize office and construction software(s) for communications, scheduling and construction observation and reporting processes.
Qualifications: Required:
• Associates degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 4 years minimum experience working in construction management or construction trades;
• In lieu of degree, a minimum 7 years of experience working in construction management or construction trades will be considered dependent on type and scale of experience; 10 years’ experience preferred;
• Technical knowledge of construction industry standards;
• Ability to comprehend construction drawings and specifications in order to confirm adherence of field construction to design documents;
• Ability to climb ladders, traverse uneven ground, open roof access hatches, and other physical capabilities related to construction site management;
• MS Word and Excel proficiency;
• Working knowledge of NYS Building Code;
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
• Strong organizational skills;
Preferred:
• Project scheduling experience
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and NFPA standards
• Working knowledge of OSHA/ PESH regulations
• Code Enforcement Official certification preferred
