Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz is seeking a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor with a specialty in School Counseling to join its CACREP-accredited and growing Counselor Education Department. This faculty member will teach 3 graduate counseling courses per semester in addition to advising, research, and departmental and university service. Candidates who bring diverse cultural experiences and who are especially qualified to mentor and advise all members of our diverse student population are especially encouraged to apply. This position will start August 2025.

Specific requirements for this position include:
• Commitment to training counseling students.
• Teaching graduate courses in School Counseling such as School Counseling
Practicum and Internship, Counseling Skills, Professional Roles in School
Counseling, and other courses and/or electives based on areas of expertise.
• Active program of scholarly research.
• Supervising/monitoring students in practicum and internship field placements.
• Student advising and routine evaluation of student academic success, adherence to professional standards, counseling skill competence, and adherence to professional behaviors and dispositions.
• Program, departmental, university-wide and professional service.

Qualifications: Required:
• Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements to be considered for the position: Have a doctoral degree in counselor education, from a CACREP accredited program; Have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013; Have been employed as a full-time doctoral-level faculty member in a CORE-accredited master's program prior to July 1, 2017; Have graduated from a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018; Excellent ABD candidates with a firm date of completion, preferably by July 1, 2025, will be considered.
• Master's Degree in School Counseling
• Demonstrated professional identity as, and demonstrated commitment to an identity as, a counselor educator as defined by CACREP with clear affiliations to relevant counseling associations (i.e., membership with ACA/ASCA, ACES).
• Certified as a School Counselor or the ability to become certified in New York State.
• Previous teaching experience
• Demonstrated awareness/knowledge of racial inequalities and challenges faced by historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged groups.
• Demonstrated commitment and contributions to social justice advocacy through teaching/mentoring students, research agenda and publications, and/or service activities.
• The ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty, and a community who are from intersecting marginalized social groups.

Preferred:
• Record of publishing and/or presenting counseling-related peer-reviewed
research and/or evidence of future research potential related to the practice of school counseling.
• Professional service and advocacy efforts within the practice of school counseling.
• Experience with CACREP accreditation.
