Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz seeks an Equity Investigator, within the office of Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion (HRDI). The Equity Investigator will support the Title IX Coordinator, the Chief Diversity Officer and the Director of Student Conduct & Community Standards to triage incoming reports, determine appropriate response channels, undertake investigations, provide resources to individuals in the reporting process, and support training. This position will commonly work with the campus University Police as well as with other Student Affairs & HRDI partners to perform the duties and responsibilities noted below. This is a full-time, 12-month, management-confidential position with generous and competitive benefits through New York State.
Duties and Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
• Receive and review initial complaints and reports.
• Initiate the investigative record, which includes intakes, interviews, gathering and documentation of evidence, and track complaints, outreach, and outcomes.
• Ensure compliance including updating materials, websites, and data management of cases in the case management system for reporting to state and federal agencies.
• Maintain current and accurate understanding of federal, state & local laws including Title IX, 129-B, VAWA, Clery Act, Title VI, and associated mandates.
• Assist in the presentation of educational programming and training across all campus populations.
• Undertake university service as assigned.
The successful candidate will follow campus policies and procedures closely, and act as a neutral party throughout the investigation processes, ultimately providing timely, detailed, evidence based and unbiased reports on the findings and recommendations.
Qualifications: Required:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• At least 2 years of experience in this or related work
• Sound judgement, confidentiality, and ethical management of information.
• Tact and knowledge of trauma informed investigative practices.
• Basic knowledge of state and federal regulations including but not limited to Title IX, 129-B, VAWA, Clery Act, Title VI, Title VII, ADA and associated anti-discrimination laws.
• Relevant experience in investigation processes, including ability to convey complex issues through careful and detailed documentation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively present to various audiences.
• Careful, consistent, and accurate record keeping.
• Effective time management and ability to meet multiple and competing deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively within a team as well as independently.
• Evening and weekends may be required occasionally to support the operational needs of the position.
• Travel may be required for professional development.
Preferred:
• Master’s degree in Higher Education, Human Resources, or related field.
• Experience in the high education setting
• Experience with Maxient, Microsoft products, and relational databases.
• Certifications or additional training in conducting equity investigations are a plus.
