Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz is pleased to announce a search for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Painting and Drawing in the Department of Art. Our program is renowned for its integration of the traditions of fine arts with contemporary practices, and we are seeking an innovative artist and educator with a deep understanding of the practice, history, and theory of contemporary painting and drawing. The ideal candidate should be experienced in the management of large, well-equipped painting studios, demonstrate exceptional
teaching, and be prepared to take a leadership role in the program. We encourage applicants who can teach toward related themes of narrative, identity and the body.

The successful candidate will teach courses in painting and drawing at the undergraduate and graduate level while also serving students across the visual arts and art education, take a leadership rote in managing the painting and drawing area, contribute to the development of the curriculum, mentor students in studio practices, and actively participate in the broader academic community.

In addition to ongoing excellence in teaching; creative/scholarly research, and professional activity, the position requires generosity in service to the department, and university including participation in committees and student advising. We welcome candidates who can cultivate a welcoming and inclusive studio culture and curriculum and connect students with opportunities for engagement on campus and beyond.

Qualifications: Required:
• An MFA or equivalent terminal degree in painting/drawing
• An established exhibition record
• At least three years of teaching experience at collegiate level
• Demonstrated program leadership

Preferred:
• Candidates who can teach on the themes of narrative, identity, and/or the body
• The ability to coordinate the staffing painting and drawing courses and ensure the studios are safe and accessible.
• Experience teaching and mentoring graduate students.
