Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz welcomes applications for the role of Director of Veteran & Military Services. Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director of Veteran & Military Services is responsible for the development and implementation of recruitment strategies, retention support, and successful progression to graduation for military affiliated students (MAS). In addition, the Director ensures that the university is meeting federal and state reporting requirements imposed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD), and New York State Approving Agency (NYSAA). This is a full-time, 12 month position.

Duties of the role include but are not limited to:
• Create a comprehensive and collaborative campus-wide effort to maximize the recruitment, retention, graduation, and alumni connection of the university’s MAS and military-affiliated alumni (MAA).
• Provide oversight, planning, and execution of programming including but not limited to prospect recruitment, onboarding, and engagement activities.
• Administer and assess ROTC program, Community College in the Airforce, and other university programs while working collaboratively with key stakeholders for program success and compliance.
• Develop and maintain the departmental budget and assess quarterly.
• Keep current and in compliance with DoD and Veteran Affairs policies and procedures, meeting all deadlines.
• Maintain cross training with the assistant director for processing students’ educational benefits.
• Ensure the Office of Veteran & Military Services (OVMS) is meeting federal and University statistical reporting requirements and federal and University policies and procedures.
• Cultivate relationships with external veteran-specific organizations to ensure the university and OVMS have a multitude of resources that will support the academic, social, and career success for MAS.
• Supervise assistant director and staff, maintain office coverage and maintain office event calendar.
• Participate in campus committees.

Qualifications: Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Leadership experience working with Veteran and military-affiliated population.
• Demonstrable understanding of GI Bill Educational Benefits
• Minimum 2-years’ experience working in higher education.
• Military service with a discharge other than dishonorable
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred:
• Master’s Degree in related field
• VA School Certifying Officer (SCO)
• A minimum of one year of supervisory experience and a successful record of supporting and motivating staff as well as student workers.
• Experience with Banner, Argos, VAONCE/Enrollment Manager, and Slate
• Experience in Student Accounts, Financial Aid, and/or Records and Registration
