Duties: The Center for Student Engagement at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz is seeking an innovative, creative, and engaged colleague to join our team as the next LGBTQ+ Life Coordinator. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives by overseeing programs and services that support the needs of the active and vibrant LGBTQ+ community at SUNY New Paltz. This position will also have the unique opportunity to help shape a new multicultural space that focuses on providing a wide range of education and training efforts, developing intersectional programming, and collaborating with campus partners to create a welcoming environment for historically marginalized communities. As a key member of the Center for Student Engagement, the Coordinator will contribute to the empowerment of all students. This is a 12-month, full time, position. The position is represented by United University Professionals (UUP) and features competitive NYS benefits.

Duties of the role include but are not limited to:
• Serve in Student Affairs as part of the Center for Student Engagement, which provides services including orientation and transition programs, leadership development and student activities, fraternity and sorority support, student union building operations, and community and civic engagement.
• Work collaboratively within and beyond this team to contribute to a vibrant student life program that engages students across campus.
• Provide primary coordination for education and programming that supports the needs of the LGBTQ+ community at SUNY New Paltz.
• In collaboration with the Assistant Director for Intercultural Student Engagement, develop and lead innovative trainings and other educational opportunities to various campus constituents to enhance belonging and coalition building within and between the many faith and spiritual traditions, LGBTQ+ students, multicultural students, and allies.
• Collaboratively work within Center for Student Engagement to design and execute initiatives which includes but is not limited to the design and execution of initiatives such as Heritage/Awareness Months, Trans Day of Remembrance, National Coming Out Day, Harvest Festival, and Lavender Celebration.
• Assist the co-director of the Riveria House in partnership with Residence Life.
• Manage and curate social media to promote programs, resources, and initiatives
• Assist with the experiences that enhance recognition, recruitment, and retention such as open houses, orientation, leadership retreats, etc.
• Work collaboratively with campus departments, faculty, and student organizations to advance diversity initiatives and create a supportive campus climate. These partnerships include but are not limited to HRDI, Residence Life, Academic Affairs, Counseling Service, ODEI System Administration, and external communities of practice and advocacy groups.
• Collaborate with and among a network of programs across the institution designed to support students from diverse backgrounds, including the Scholars’ Mentorship Program (SMP), AMP & CSTEP Community (AC^2), New Paltz Athletes of Color (NPAC), Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), and others
• Assist in the consultation, review, and approval of student club events
• Assist in the management of the student engagement/student organizations and clubs platform, Anthology Engage
• This position will require observing core operating hours and will also include nights and weekends in the form of rotational office coverage and assigned programming; flexibility of scheduled hours to support departmental programs and operations is expected
• Serve on the Student Affairs committees and working groups and other University services

Qualifications: Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or a minimum of three years of direct relevant experience
• Current and extensive knowledge in the field of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, access, belonging, and cultural competency
• Working knowledge of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to Title IX, New York State Human Rights, and LGBTQ+ representation across SUNY system, NY State, and the United States
• Knowledge of social justice and student development theories, group and community development models, and leadership development frameworks relevant to a highly diverse campus community.
• Experience in designing and delivering training, programming, and educational initiatives
• Strong organizational ability, interpersonal skills, strategic and analytical skills
• Ability to conceptualize, organize, and coordinate programs
• Ability to work some nights and weekends required

Preferred:
• Master’s degree in related field with experience in student activities, student engagement, DEI, and/or student personnel
• Certification in Peer Education, Social Justice Education/ Racial Justice Institutes, Coalition Building Institute, ALLIES, or similar.
• Experience teaching and/or developing curriculum
• Thorough knowledge of and experience with federal and state laws, including but not limited to Title VI, Title IX, Title VII, ADEA, and ADA
• Experience with Anthology Engage software platform
• Ability to work within a dynamic environment and a proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities
