ABOUT US

The Hudson Valley Writing Project (HVWP) at the State University of New York at New Paltz is a professional development organization whose purpose is to improve the teaching of writing and to promote literacy development at all levels of education, preschool through university.

HVWP, a site of the National Writing Project, provides powerful learning opportunities for educators in the Hudson Valley region so that:

  • Teachers have access to a local network in which they share their teaching experiences and study exemplary literacy practices with colleagues in order to continue their professional learning
  • Schools and school districts have access to high-quality professional development responsive to teachers' knowledge and interests as well as school and community needs
  • Students have access to reading, writing, and thinking experiences that prepare them to participate in and contribute to their communities

HVWP is a NYSED-approved sponsor of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) and our professional development aligns to and extends beyond literacy goals suggested by the Next Generation Learning Standards. Our programs are developed and led by experienced teacher-leaders and university faculty. We subscribe to the core principles guiding all National Writing Project sites.
