Print Services

Digital Printing

Digital reproduction is most appropriate for short runs (under 2000 total impressions) or eleventh hour projects (“rush jobs”) on standard size papers (letter, legal, and tabloid). Print Services is well equipped with a high speed Ricoh C5100S, a Ricoh 1107ES, a Xerox 700, and a HP Z5400 44” wide format printer. Size capability is 11x17 for black and white, 12 x18 for color with full bleeds, and 44” wide by any length on the wide format printer. Digital presses also allow us to provide variable data printing. Call Print services at x2646 for further information.

Offset Printing

Offset printing is the most economical method for long runs (whether black or color), non-standard sizes, and special stocks, such as textured paper, envelopes, etc. The shop’s workhorse is a two-color Heidelberg QM46 and digital plates for the offset press are made on a Presstek DPM 400 PRO. Most of our stationery is run on this press.

Bindery

Finishing operations include cutting, folding, stapling, padding, collating, trimming, perfing, scoring, three-hole drilling, laminating, and booklet making by wire stitch, tape binding, coil or plastic spiral, as well as shrink wrap. Posters up to 2’ x 3’ can be mounted on foam core. Pull-up banners can be made in two sizes: 11.7 x 16.6 (table) or 36 x 83.25 (floor).

Delivery

Completed projects are packaged and delivered to the ordering department by our student assistants, or they can be boxed for shipment to a mail house as designated on the request form. For tracking purposes, you will be asked to sign a receipt slip.

Projects that require security in printing and delivery (such as exams) are packaged and delivered under special procedures. Check the "confidential" box on the work request. Call Print Services at x2646 for further information.

To Place an Order

You need two things:

  • Request form
  • The documents:

All request forms are available at my.newpaltz.edu in the Communication & Marketing link. Hard copy forms are available at Print Services, Haggerty 8 (basement).

Digital files

Word documents or pdf files can be emailed to printshop@newpaltz.edu accompanied by your completed request form. Files may also be placed on the P drive. Please be sure the name and location of the file is on your order form.

Hard copy documents

Hard copy originals can be delivered to Haggerty 8, accompanied by a Design, Print & Mail Request form. Please do not use staples or fold the originals.

Stationary

Letterhead and envelopes may be ordered using the Design, Print & Mail Request form. If you are requesting personalized stationery for the first time (e.g., account number on envelopes, or department name, phone and fax numbers on letterhead) you need to submit a Design, Print & Mail Request form to Design Services so they can set the type according to brand standards. Only stationery designed by the Design Services staff in Communication & Marketing may be used for University correspondence.

Business cards (flat ink only, not thermograph) should be ordered using the Business Card Order form. Requests for reprints (absolutely no changes) may be sent to printshop@newpaltz.edu or delivered to Print Services in Haggerty 8. First time orders or requests for changes should be delivered to Design Services in Haggerty 511.

Business cards in thermograph ink (raised letters) must be submitted to Purchasing with a purchase requisition accompanied by their thermograph template form. These are done off-campus. Print Services is not equipped to do thermograph printing.

Variable Data

Advance notice is requested for variable data printing. Proper file set up and accurate field names are critical. Contact Print Services at x2646 for details.

Recharge

All costs for printed materials are recharged to the requesting office/department using the account number supplied on the Design, Print & Mail Request form. Rates are based on recovering supplies, materials and maintenance costs, not labor or overhead. Note: projects funded through grants or other non-state accounts will be invoiced including labor. We can accept cash or checks (made out to SUNY New Paltz account 900815) but are unable to process credit cards.

Printing for Students

Clubs may submit work to Print Services with a purchase order from the Student Association. Individuals may submit work to be paid by cash or check (made out to SUNY New Paltz account 900815) at the time the work is picked up. Because Print Services is normally very busy we recommend bringing in your project with as much lead time as possible.
