Ottaway Sr. served as a director to the Associated Press and as president of the New York State Press Association. He was also leader of the Reston, Va.-based American Press Institute.
Today, Ottaway Newspapers Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Dow Jones, includes 13 dailies and more than 30 weeklies in addition to a number of shoppers and other publications in 11 states, with annual revenues of $330 million.
