Adolescence is a critical developmental period for children, and teachers in the Adolescence Education grade bands have a lasting impact on every student in their classroom. From critical thinking to interpersonal social skills, an Adolescence Educator helps students learn how to understand the world around them beyond the disciplinary confines of English, mathematics, science, social studies, and world languages.
Candidates in the Adolescence Education programs will have a strong foundation in their disciplinary focus area as well as thorough exposure to the art and science of teaching, including classroom management, lesson planning, and pedagogical skill.
To help address the growing needs of English language learners in New York State and the country, the department also offers a Master of Science in Education in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL).
