The Scholars' Mentorship Program consists of three tiers.
Tier I: First Year Protégés
First year students who are assigned faculty/staff mentors and peer mentors.
Tier II: Peer Mentors
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled or have completed in the peer mentoring course, BLK420--Counseling Underrepresented Students.
Tier III: Student Leaders
Sophomores, juniors and seniors who are enrolled in or have completed BLK345--Black and Latino Leadership.
Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors (including transfer students) may remain in the program and report to a Faculty/Staff Mentor without moving to Tier II or Tier III. However, those who do enroll in BLK420 (Tier II) and become Peer Mentors gain a dual role. While they continue their relationship with a Faculty/Staff Mentor, they are also assigned one or more First Year Protégés. Peer Mentors meet regularly with each First Year Protégé and are encouraged to serve as liaisons between them and the Faculty/Staff Mentors. They may arrange appointments between the appropriate Faculty/Staff Mentors and Freshman Protégés and attend events with either or both.
