Hawks Leadership Academy

Hawks Leadership Academy identifies, develops, and graduates elite student leaders.  The curriculum is designed for student-athletes to enter, participate, learn, and graduate each phase by developing and encouraging a culture of trust, open communication, and respect. The Leadership Academy includes Hawks 101, Rising, Hawks, and Veteran Hawks. 

Requirements/Prerequisites: First-year or transfer student athlete
Compensation: None (Leadership Program)
Application Timeline: Recommendations for the academy are made by coaches each spring

Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a group comprised of up to two student-athletes from each of the department's 15 intercollegiate teams. A primary focus of SAAC is to promote community (campus and external) engagement through a series of activities and events. Such activities include Special Olympics, a community leaf rake, Yards for Yeardley and Midnight Madness. In addition, SAAC also serves as an advisory committee to the department's administration regarding NCAA legislation and other matters that affect student-athletes on a conference (SUNYAC and UVC) level as well as a national level (NCAA).

Requirements/Prerequisites: Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior student-athlete
Compensation: None (Leadership Program)

Graphic Design Intern

This is a paid student position, which helps curate graphic content for the Athletics, Wellness and Recreation office. The prospective student will be asked to develop art for the department which includes, but is not limited to: Senior Day programs, game day graphics, marketing materials for the department, Alumni Wall of Distinction printed graphics, Alumni Weekend marketing materials, weekly and seasonal graphics to promote student-athletes, coaches and programs along with various daily assignments.

Requirements/Prerequisites: Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is required.
Compensation: Paid

Journalism Intern

The prospective student will have the opportunity to cover one or multiple of our 17 varsity programs. Like a working professional sports beat writer in the field, the prospective student will be responsible for in-depth coverage of their respective beat. This includes, but not limited to: weekly written and video previews; post-game stories for every game/match/meet (post-game interviews will be done after each home contest); social media coverage for all contests (home and away), which includes frequent score updates that includes GIFs or short video highlight clips; and any written features involving their sports beat. 

Requirements/Prerequisites: Basic sports knowledge is required
Compensation: College Credit

Digital Media Production/Management Internship

Prospective students will have the opportunity to work within the Athletic Communications Office and develop innovative and creative content to promote the Athletics, Wellness and Recreation Department, along with its 17 varsity sports programs. The prospective student(s) will have the creative freedom to come up with video projects they wish to produce. This includes, but is not limited to: formal feature interviews, fun video segments, promotional content i.e. commercials, game day graphics, highlight videos, shooting live contents ect.

Requirements/Prerequisites: Individuals must have some type of knowledge of shooting and editing video content.
Compensation: College Credit

Public Relations/Communications Intern

Prospective students will have the opportunity to promote all aspects of the Athletics, Wellness and Recreation department. They will aid in releasing content on all the athletics social media pages, while developing press releasing and graphics to push on the nphawks.com website and all social platforms. Prospective students will be asked to attend home contests and any special events hosted by the department in order to further promote on all social channels.
